What are stem cells?

Stem cells are your body's raw materials — cells from which all other cells with specialized functions are generated. Under the proper conditions within the body or a laboratory, stem cells divide to create more cells called daughter cells. These daughter cells either become new stem cells (self-renewal) or become specialized cells (differentiation) with a more specific function, like blood cells, brain cells, cardiac muscle cells, or bone cells. No other cell within the body has the natural ability to generate new cell types.

Is this safe?

Yes, we have not seen any patients experience adverse consequences or deterioration of their disease as a result of therapy. Fatigue, fever, and nausea have been frequent short-term side effects directly after the cell transplant. Normally, these symptoms subside after 1-2 hours.

Will my body reject stem cells?

Mesenchymal stem cells do not have any risk of rejection within your body. These are youthful, immune-privileged, undifferentiated cells that do not have any rejection within the body because they need yet to be “claimed”. Since there are no blood products related to them either, they are universally accepted, removing the requirement for a donor match. These cells simply hunt down inflammation within the body and start to heal the damaged tissue. Mesenchymal stem cells are administered thousands of times at clinics round the world without instances of rejection (graft vs. host disease).

What type of cells does CZMStem use?

We exclusively use high quality and high purity mesenchymal stem cells obtained from the largest mesenchymal stem cells laboratory in Latinamerica.

Can IV stem cells therapy cause clots or embolisms?

No. We have designed a physician approved protocol to ensure the stem cells are administered at a very slow rate (1cc per minute), preventing the formation of clots and other complications. There have been no reported cases of clots or embolism from IV treatment.

Do mesenchymal stem cells have to be HLA matched?

No. Since there are no blood products involved in the infusion, there is no need for them to be matched. These cells have immuno-privilege because they have no markers that could trigger any immune response in the body. Think of them as brand new cells that will be claimed by your body once they are in it.

Could I get graft vs host disease?

No. Because these are “unclaimed” cells, they are immuno-privileged, which means that, since there are no blood products involved in the infusion, they have no markers that could trigger an immune response in the body.

Are the stem cells frozen?

Right after expanding them, the cells are cryogenically preserved in a protective solution at -150F, just like eggs and sperm are stored for future in-vitro fertilization. When they are ready to be used, the cells are slowly and carefully brought to an appropriate temperature and immediately tested to determine the cell count and viability to ensure they meet the quality assurance standards. We only use the cells that meet the optimum standards.

What treatments do you offer?

We offer mesenchymal stem cell therapy, that can be administered via IV for a systemic treatment, or injected locally to target specific sites.

Do I need more than one treatment?

We do not require the patients to repeat treatments. One single treatment has shown to have little to no signs of regressions up to 18 months after being administered. Some choose to return voluntarily to follow on treatment, either to benefit even further of it or to maintain their improvements. We do not recommend more than one treatment a year.

How long does it take to feel the results?

Stem cell therapy usually produces measurable results within 3 to 6 months. This is indicated by a noticeable reduction in inflammation levels. However, many patients report improvements to their quality of life and a lessening of their symptoms within only the first few weeks. Every patient is unique and will respond differently to the treatment.

How long will the effects last?

It depends on several biological factors, and is also subject to the patient’s lifestyle. Those who have an active lifestyle, stick to an anti-inflammatory diet, and restrict the consumption of caffeine, alcohol, and tobacco will enjoy sustained results for over 2 years, depending on their condition. On average, little signs of regression are shown up to 18 months following treatment, and patients rarely return to their pre-treatment state.

Can orthopedic conditions be treated?

We specialize in the systemic treatment for conditions like chronic inflammation, autoimmune and degenerative conditions, as well as wear and tear. We are not specialized in treating orthopedic issues, and do not provide treatments for joints and spine. We can only offer limited site injections as an addition to the systemic treatment per request.

How long is the treatment process?

The whole treatment is a 2 day process, during which, a variety of therapies developed to enhance the stem cell activation and potency will accompany the mesenchymal stem cell transplant. The procedure is minimally invasive (single IV transfusion) and you will be able to travel the day after treatment.

How do these treatments differ from those in the US?

Despite the clinical evidence, the US still has very strict regulations and laws against stem cell treatments. While you will find many clinics within the US offering “stem cell therapies”, these therapies are highly restricted in scope and number of cells used, or just send you outside the US for treatment. These clinics usually draw patients in then refer them to Mexico or Panama, since it's currently not legal to get expanded Allogeneic treatment inside the US. The expansion is what allows the high cell numbers needed for effective treatment. It's due to these laws within the US that many people have opted to travel abroad to receive the most innovative therapies, including several high-profile athletes and celebrities. It has created a booming medical tourism industry within the last decade. At CZMStem we seek to deliver our patients safe and effective treatments, in a safe, luxurious, and beautiful setting.

Where do your stem cells come from?

We partnered with CryoVida, a human stem cell bank and a cellular biotechnology center with more than 18 years of experience in the research and development of cell therapy as a medical treatment in Mexico. CryoVida currently has GMP facilities, ISO 6 classified, that comply with the Official Mexican Standard (NOM) 059-SSA1-2025 which establishes the good manufacturing practices of the pharmaceutical industry regarding class A laboratories. They are the largest MSCs laboratory in Latinamerica, and the only laboratory, in Mexico, that has the three existing permits regarding the management and development of regenerative medicine based on the extraction, expansion and application of Mesenchymal Stem Cells.

Who performs the treatment?

Dr. Jesus performs every single treatment. We also make sure to schedule no more than two patients a day, so we are able to provide each patient our full undivided attention during the treatment process.

Isn’t stem cell therapy expensive?

At CZMStem we are eager to improve people’s quality of life. With you in mind, we have created strategic partnerships and alliances to find the perfect site and provider for the high quality treatment we want to deliver, with plans starting at $10,000. Please check our pricing page for more details.

Would my insurance cover this treatment?

No. Most insurances would not cover the treatment costs.

What makes CZMStem different from other clinics?

We only source our cells from registered and GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) certified labs, guaranteeing that the patient receives only the highest quality and purity, regulated mesenchymal stem cells. We comply and exceed the Official Mexican Standard (NOM) 059-SSA1-2025 government regulations, and we are legally able to provide expanded cell therapy.

When looking for a reputable stem cell therapy clinic, always ask: where their cells come from, how many cells you will receive and what sort of treatment protocol they follow. Under-regulated clinics can extract stem cells from a variety of sources, compromising their safety and effectiveness.

How are cells transported?

All of our cells are expanded using safe and standard protocols and are then flown overnight in sub-zero cryogenic containers to our clinic for immediate treatment.

Are the cells viable (alive)?

Yes. We test all of our cells for viability prior to treatment, to ensure maximum effectiveness.

Where are CryoVida’s stem cells sourced from?

CryoVida is a human stem cell bank and cellular biotechnology center with over 18 years of experience in research and development of cell therapy as a medical treatment. The selection of the donors is extremely regulated and strict. The donors are tested for STDs, Hepatitis A/B/C/D, TB, Zika virus, no history of cancer or chronic illness, no history of autoimmune diseases, no tattoos or piercings, no travel abroad with one year, no history of CJD, negative for HIV, negative for HTLV 1 AND 2, and no history of drug or alcohol abuse. After the donor is vigorously screened and accepted, CryoVida then expands the extracted stem cells out to roughly 300 million cells per treatment.

What sort of quality controls do you have?

Once the stem cells have been expanded to optimum numbers, they still undergo quality control testing before release. Cells are rigorously tested for potency, blood-borne pathogens, contaminating agents, fungal presence, cellular ATP levels, and proper growth rates. The entire production process is completed in a certified sterile clean room, which meets all regulations. Additionally, all lab employees are required to be properly trained with documentation on file for review. All of these steps ensure the highest quality of output from CryoVida. Once the cells are ordered and ready for use, they are held in sub zero cryo-storage, and shipped overnight to us for immediate treatment.
